Bobby Sands Mural

Overview

The Bobby Sands Mural is a political mural on Falls Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland, commemorating Bobby Sands, a member of the Irish Republican Army who died in the Maze Prison on May 5, 1981, after a 66-day hunger strike. The mural has become one of the best-known images associated with Belfast and the Troubles, the decades-long conflict centered on the constitutional status of Northern Ireland.

Several versions of the mural have appeared at the site over the years. The current version dates to about 2005, though it has been updated and restored over the years. The mural is maintained by the Bobby Sands Trust.
