Il Latini

Overview

Il Latini is a traditional Tuscan restaurant in Florence, Italy, founded in 1911 when Angelo Latini opened a fiaschetteria, or wine shop. The business later developed into a restaurant under Narciso Latini and his wife, Maria. Maria prepared early meals at home and served them at tables set in the cellars of Palazzo Rucellai.

The restaurant specializes in traditional Tuscan cooking based on simple preparations and regional ingredients. During the 1966 Florence flood, Il Latini remained open and served hot meals and wine while surrounding streets were still covered with mud.

More than a century after its founding, Il Latini remains operated by the Latini family, now in its fourth generation. Its menu still emphasizes traditional Tuscan dishes and ingredients tied to the region’s culinary heritage.
