Overview
A Tribute to Firefighters is a memorial in the Firefighters Reserve in Christchurch, New Zealand, honoring first responders to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States. The monument incorporates steel girders recovered from the World Trade Center towers and presented to Christchurch by New York City.
Sculptor Graham Bennett created the memorial, which opened on October 26, 2002, beside the Avon River. It was temporarily relocated in September 2014 to accommodate nearby bridge repairs and returned to the reserve in February 2015. Firefighters and first responders gather at the monument each year to commemorate the anniversary of the attacks.
