Proving that Democrats never met a tax they didn’t like, Georgia Rep. Eric Bell, D-Jonesboro, who loves to use Nazi-inspired rhetoric to deride happenings he doesn’t like, has introduced a new tax for healthcare.
House Bill 1100 would create a Healthcare Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, also known as an H-SPLOST.
The measure proposes a ballot referendum for local voters to decide whether to impose the H-SPLOST on themselves. If approved, the additional tax will be dedicated to healthcare purposes.
“Currently, more than 50 counties in Georgia lack a hospital, and more than one million Georgians are uninsured,” Bell said in a release.
“Every community in Georgia deserves access to high quality healthcare, and this bill will equip local leaders with a much-needed tool to fund healthcare infrastructure and workforce development,” Bell added. “Expanding access to healthcare remains a top priority for Democrats, and this legislation presents one of many steps our state can take to achieve this goal.”
The bill is co-sponsored by state Reps. Spencer Frye, D-Athens; Bryce Berry, D-Atlanta; Sheila Jones, D-Atlanta; Patty Marie Stinson, D-Butler; and Yasmin Neal, D-Jonesboro.
