A pair of Democrats knocked off incumbents on the Georgia Public Service Commission to pick up seats on the board that oversees utilities in the Peach State.

Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard defeated incumbents Fitz Johnson and Tim Echols. The Public Service Commission races mark Georgia Democrats’ first victory in a non-federal statewide election in nearly two decades.

“Today, after three decades of Republican control of the PSC, Georgians voted to put people ahead of corporate profits on the Public Service Commission,” Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey said in a statement. “Peter Hubbard and Dr. Alicia Johnson’s decisive victories are a win for our wallets, our clean energy future, and for hardworking Georgians all across the state, who for years have endured skyrocketing power bills at the hands of the all-Republican Public Service Commission.”
