President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative aimed at improving America’s national parks, emphasizing the importance of preserving these natural treasures for future generations.
The order would increase entry fees for foreign tourists while lowering fees for U.S. residents in a bid to expand access to national parks.
Under the order, announced this evening, the Secretary of the Interior must develop strategies to raise revenue through higher entrance fees for nonresidents and increasing prices for the America the Beautiful Pass. The revenue generated will be used to enhance park infrastructure and improve visitor experiences.
Additionally, the administration plans to promote international tourism to U.S. national parks, with a focus on areas that are currently underutilized. The order also calls for a review of the National Park Service’s maintenance backlog and recreational access rules to ensure that national parks remain accessible to American families.
This directive revokes a previous memorandum promoting diversity and inclusion in public lands, signaling a shift in policy focus. The administration asserts that these changes will make America’s national parks more enjoyable and accessible for all.
The order will be implemented in accordance with applicable laws and budgetary provisions.
