ATLANTA – The House Study Committee on Gaming in the State of Georgia will hold its inaugural meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 28.
Established by House Resolution 753, the study committee, chaired by State Rep. Marcus Wiedower, R-Watkinsville, is tasked with examining the potential impacts of legalizing gaming in the Peach State. The committee aims to explore how legalization, if approved by the citizens and enabled by state lawmakers, might benefit the state’s economy and workforce development.
Key areas of focus will include expected revenue generation, the quality of jobs created, and the social implications that might arise from the introduction of gaming. Additionally, the committee will assess whether the legalization of gaming could lead to increased tax revenues for Georgia, which may assist in addressing the state’s budgetary needs.
This will take place at the Oconee County Administrative Building in Watkinsville.
