A bevy of local and state officials gathered at the Governor’s Mansion to celebrate the opening of a new Georgia State Patrol post.
The new 1,750-square-foot facility, designed by Houser Walker Architecture, is located on the mansion grounds and will serve the broader Buckhead community and surrounding parts of Atlanta. It is adjacent to the entrance of the Governor’s Mansion on Woodhaven Road NW.
Officials said it maintains the historical integrity of the surrounding grounds. The post, completed last month, was made possible with a $1.3 million addition to the fiscal 2024 budget that Georgia lawmakers approved.
“With the opening of this new post, we’re furthering our collaborative approach to taking criminals off our streets and bringing them to justice,” Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said in a release.
Roughly 35 troopers can use the post, with 13 directly assigned to the facility, providing increased accessibility to and around-the-clock security for the Buckhead community and surrounding areas.
“Atlanta is stronger when Buckhead is safer, and that’s why the House was proud to invest over $1 million to support this new Georgia State Patrol post,” Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, said in a release. “We will continue leading efforts to crack down on crime, bolster public safety, and support our law enforcement heroes and their families every step of the way.”
