A Georgia lawmaker has introduced a measure to eliminate the title ad valorem tax fee requirement for some inherited motor vehicles.

House Bill 186 would amend Georgia law so that upon the death of an owner of a motor vehicle, an immediate family member who receives the vehicle would not be subject to a state title ad valorem tax fee.

“HB 186 is a common-sense tax relief measure that would lessen the potential financial burden of inheriting a vehicle after losing a relative,” Georgia Rep. Jordan Ridley, R-Woodstock, said in a statement. “It’s only fair that an automobile inherited from a late relative is exempt from fees. I’m grateful to my fellow House members for cosponsoring this proposed legislation, with over 30 representatives supporting it.”
