Georgia committee adopts affordable childcare final report

The Georgia Senate Study Committee on Access to Affordable Childcare has unanimously adopted its final report and recommendations.

Established under Senate Resolution 471, the committee gathered testimony from stakeholders during four meetings focused on the impact of childcare on Georgia’s workforce and economy, after-school and summer childcare programs and childcare services funding mechanisms.

The key recommendations include:

• Providing options for childcare workers to access funding for childcare services.
• Implementing a refundable tax credit for early childhood educators.
• Increasing the tax credit for child and dependent care expenses.
• Prioritizing the creation of a Georgia Child Tax Credit to help families with young children offset expenses as their children reach school age.
• Expanding eligibility for Georgia’s tax credit for employer-sponsored childcare and increasing the amount of that credit.
