BTS: February U.S. airline traffic up 8.6% from last year

Domestic U.S. airlines carried 70.4 million domestic and international scheduled service passengers in February 2024, up 1.3% from January and 8.6% from last year, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

When seasonally adjusted, February enplanements are up 1.3% from January and reached an all-time high in February 2024. BTS reported 61 million domestic passengers and 9.4 million international passengers on U.S. airline flights in February, not adjusting for seasonality.

February seasonally adjusted

  • Systemwide enplanements of 82.4 million reached a new all-time, seasonally-adjusted, high based on data through February 2024
  • Domestic enplanements of 71.2 million were down 0.1% from the all-time high of 71.3 million reached in November 2023
  • International enplanements of 11.17 million reached a new all-time, seasonally-adjusted, high based on data through February 2024

February unadjusted

  • Systemwide enplanements of 70.4 million reached a new all-time high for the month of February
  • Domestic enplanements of 61 million reached a new all-time high for the month of February
  • International enplanements of 9.4 million were up 16.4% from the all-time February high (8.07) reached in 2023
