Monuments to shootings remain ‘Nooga Strong’

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A month after five people were killed in a terrorist attack here, a pair of monuments remain “Nooga Stong.”

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith and U.S. Marines Lance Cpl. Squire Wells, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, Sgt. Carson Holmquist and Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan were killed after a gunman on July 16 opened fire at a recruiting center and a U.S. Navy Reserve center. The gunman — Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez — was killed by authorities.

On Saturday, thousands of motorcyclists participated in a ride from Marietta, Ga., to Chattanooga on Interstate 75 to honor a U.S. Marine slain in the shootings.
