LaGRANGE, Ga. — Graham Craig threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns to lead LaGrange College to a 35-21 win over Greensboro College.
Before a crowd of 623 at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, the Panthers (1-2) relied on their passing attack, as they eked out just 40 yards on the ground. The Panthers took a 21-0 lead into halftime en route to their first USA South conference win of the season.
Griffin Roelle was Craig’s favorite target on the afternoon, catching eight passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Linebacker Andre Carter led the LaGrange defense with nine tackles, including three that went for a loss.
Ryan Throndset completed 28 of 40 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown to lead Greensboro (1-3).
In Delaware, Ohio, trailing Ohio Wesleyan University by seven, Denison University (3-1) engineered a huge fourth quarter comeback to force overtime and eventually upset the Battling Bishops 47-41 in double overtime before a crowd of 4,800 at Selby Stadium.
Ohio Wesleyan (2-1) scored with 1:12 remaining in the fourth quarter and looked like they might squeeze out a hard-fought win. Denison’s Brandon Sklenar, however, directed a seven-play, 73-yard drive to tie the score at 34-34 with 24 seconds remaining.
Both teams scored on their first overtime possession, but Ohio Wesleyan missed a 35-yard field goal on its second possession. Denison’s Colin Morris then sealed the Big Red win with a 13-yard touchdown run.
Ohio Wesleyan’s Mason Espinosa completed 28 of 43 passes for 473 yards and three touchdowns.
In Memphis, Tenn., Berry College took a lead into halftime against Rhodes College thanks to a 47-yard touchdown run on a fake punt and a 100-yard fumble return for a touchdown. However, the visiting Vikings faltered in the second half, falling to the Lynx, 36-24, before a crowd of 2,198 at Crain Field.
Berry linebacker Anthony Batey recovered a Lynx fumble at the goal line, then took it to the house, and punter Mitchell Blanchard took a high snap on a fake punt and ran for a 47-yard touchdown to put the Vikings up early. For his efforts, Blanchard was named the Southern Athletic Association Football Special Teams Player of the Week.
Rhodes (3-1) rushed for 337 yards, led by Dane Wilson who ran for 124 yards and three of Rhodes’ four rushing touchdowns, but coughed up the ball twice in the first half. The Lynx and picked up 23 unanswered points in the second half before Berry (1-3) scored on a seven-yard pass from Adam Sandin to Sean Stassie with 1:42 left in the fourth quarter.
Saturday’s game marked Berry’s first lead in an NCAA recognized contest. Berry’s win came against a junior varsity squad, and while the school counts that contest as part of its record, the NCAA does not.
In Meadville, Pa., Mason Zurek rushed for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Wabash College rolled over Allegheny College by a 65-0 margin.
In St. Louis, Eric Daginella threw for 151 yards and a touchdown as Washington University (2-2) knocked off Centre College (3-1), 31-14.
In Alliance, Ohio, Kevin Burke passed for 336 yards five touchdowns and Taurice Scott ran for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the University of Mt. Union (3-0) handily defeated Marietta College (0-3), 84-14.
