ABH: Exhibit shines light on history of electricity

A simple flip of the switch these days turns on the lights.

But in many rural areas in Northeast Georgia, electricity is a fairly new phenomenon. Only within the last 70 years or so did electricity become available to residents of some Athens area communities.

That effort and history – and how it reshaped Georgia – is the subject of the year-long “Power to the People! Rural Electrification in Georgia” exhibit at the University of Georgia’s Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies in the UGA Main Library.
