Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release The 1974 Live Recordings on Friday, Sept. 20, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan’s return to touring that year.
When Bob Dylan and His Band walked on stage at Ameris Bank Amphitheater in Alpharetta, Georgia, few could have known he was about to “shake it up baby, twist and shout” as he sang in “Long and Wasted Years.”
A little over 25 years ago, I crossed the threshold and stepped into a Meijer in Newark, Ohio, shortly after midnight on September 30, 1997. I was about to buy what I quickly discovered was a Bob Dylan Masterpiece: “Time Out of Mind.”
It’s clear the 1980s were not the nadir of Dylan’s career, even if it was an era that didn’t produce the high level of studio albums from 20 years earlier.
