On September 30, 2024, President Joseph R. Biden Jr., granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Georgia triggering the release of Federal funds to help people and communities recover from Hurricane Helene that began September 24, 2024, and continuing.

Ed Harbison (D–Columbus), will participate in the designation of the interchange of Interstate 185 at US-27-Alternate/Manchester Expressway as the Honorable Richard H. Smith Memorial Interchange in Columbus, Georgia.
