Guidebooks are annoying. Just because some editor who doesn’t know me tells me which restaurant is the best or what attraction is a must-see doesn’t make it a must-see attraction. Sightseers’ Delight is dedicated to the weird, the quirky and the fun. After all, traveling is fun.

If it’s not, you’re doing it wrong.

All of the places highlighted in this ever-growing database are great. Sightseers’ Delight has visited them all. We think you should make a point to see every one of them. But, this is not a guidebook. Just a webpage to help you plan your next adventure.

SS Nomadic
Type of Attraction
Description

SS Nomadic was one of two vessels the White Star Line commissioned in 1910 to transport passengers to the new ocean liners RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic. The vessels were too large to dock in Cherbourg Harbour, necessitating the SS Nomadic and a sister vessel, the SS Traffic. It has been fully restored to her original 1911 appearance. Best known for transferring first- and second-class passengers to the Titanic at Cherbourg, Nomadic went on to serve in multiple roles over its career. Now back in Belfast, where she was designed and built, the ship is preserved in Hamilton Dock as a major visitor attraction. Spread across four decks, the experience offers an authentic sense of what it was like to board the Titanic, highlighting original design details and the clear distinctions between class areas.

Staten Island Ferry
Type of Attraction
Description

New York City has so many landmarks that serve as the “face” of the city, but one of the few free ones is the Staten Island Ferry. Ferries shuttled people back and forth across New York Harbor since the 18th century. Today, the Ferry between St. George on Staten Island and Lower Manhattan has a way of life for the 19 million people who commute between the two destinations each year. Eight boats make up the Staten Island Ferry fleet, making a combined 33,000 25-minute one-way trips between the two boroughs. Arguably, the ferry offers the best view of the Statue of Liberty.
