Travelers heading to Europe could see higher costs, as several popular destinations are set to introduce or raise tourist taxes.

According to data collected by Soax, these increases, ostensibly aimed at addressing sustainability concerns and improving infrastructure, could increase travel costs by 10% by 2025.

Venice, Italy, will impose a €5 per person per night fee and a reservation system for tourists, raising travel expenses. Rome, Italy, plans to boost its tax to help manage tourism and maintain historic sites, increasing the cost of hotel stays.

Rome officials have also discussed a fee to visit the Trevi Fountain.

Paris, France, currently charges €3 to €10 per night in tourist taxes. New adjustments could further drive up prices, particularly for travelers staying in luxury hotels. Barcelona, Spain, is increasing its tourist tax to fund public services and infrastructure.

Amsterdam, Netherlands, already has the highest tourist tax in Europe, charging 12.5% of the nightly hotel rate, according to National Geographic.
