Smyrna wants firm to update, expand downtown master plan

SMYRNA, Georgia — Officials here are seeking proposals from “qualified firms” to provide an update and expansion to the Smyrna B.O.L.D Downtown Master Plan.

Last year, city leaders and the Smyrna First Baptist Church began discussing a possible sale of the nine-acre church campus. In March, the City and Smyrna First Baptist Church reached an agreement.

Through the Downtown Development Authority, the city will purchase the church campus on Church Street, and the church will purchase property owned by the Development Authority. City officials say this is necessary to expand its downtown and will allow the church to remain in the city.

As part of this agreement, the city has agreed to maintain the 1924 stone chapel for public use.

Also included in the Master Planning for the space will be the adjacent former Presbyterian church property Smyrna already owns.

The city uses an e-procurement system for electronic solicitation through BidNet’s Georgia Purchasing Group. Sealed proposals will be received electronically before 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, to the BidNet Direct electronic solicitation system.
