Day 3: Metro Atlanta climbs out of winter shut down

SMYRNA, Ga. — Metro Atlantans on Thursday returned to some semblance of normalcy, two days after the metro region was socked by a winter storm that dumped just more than two inches of snow.

Meanwhile, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal apologized for the state’s response. Motorists were stranded for hours as wet roads turned to ice, a problem exacerbated by motorists who abandoned their cars on roadways region-wide.

“I am not satisfied with the response,” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Deal as saying. “But I am not going to look for a scapegoat. I am the governor, and the buck stops with me.”
