The TSA strips Americans of their rights guaranteed under the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment and should be abolished, according to a petition on The White House’s home page.
The petition, which has nearly 25,000 signatures, reads:
Since the take over of air transportation safety by the DHS and the creation of the TSA, private citizens have endured molestation, theft, and intimidation at the hands of non-POST certified security guards. The federal government has, with the assistance of the DHS, stripped Americans of basic protections afforded to them under the 4th amendment of the U. S. Constitution. Also, since the TSA has not out performed the private security previously provided, there can be no justification for the ballooning debt burden place on tax payers who see no increased benefit in the area of security. We ask that this administration dismantle the TSA and hand the job of keeping consumers of air transportation safe back to the private companies who ran it before.
This isn’t the first call to dismantle the TSA. U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., in June offered to dismantle the TSA, a move he says will save taxpayers more than $5.5 billion.
Critics have long bemoaned the TSA as a bureaucratic boondoggle. Supporters say the federal agency, founded in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is necessary to ensure the flying public remains safe.
Earlier this month, TSA agents voted 10-1 in favor of unionization, and TSA Administrator John S. Pistole touted the new agreement as “a milestone in our relationship with our workforce and AFGE.” But, Republicans in Congress were quick to deride the agreement.
