Third Annual Guitar Festival Kicks Off

First the String Cheese Incident, and now the wood stringed instruments.

The Third Annual Guitar Festival will be taking place at 3 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 10) in Burke Recital Hall.

This year the festival will feature a myriad of talented artists from across the country. Guitarists Gene Bertoncini, Frank Vignola, Howard Alden, Chris Buzzelli, Stan Smith, and Tim Cummiskey will be the feature as well as Doug Richeson on bass and Guy Remonko keeping the beat on drums.

The annual festival is organized by Denison’s own Instructor of Music, Tom Carroll, will also be performing as a part of the festival.

The festival, which has grown over the past two years, has expanded once again to include a clinic before the concert, starting at 1 p.m.

“The turnout has been incredible,” said Carroll. “Burke Hall has been filled to near capacity for the first two [festivals].

“It draws on students of course, but also the Granville community and last year people from as far away as Cincinnatti, Nashville, Rochester, and Philadelphia.”

The festival provides the opportunity for students and faculty to witness world-known musicians performing in an intimate environment.

“Bringing together world reknowned guitarists on the same stage is a real thrill,” said Carroll. “All of the artists are known all over the world as performers and teachers.”

For next year’s festival, Carroll hopes to expand the festival.

Currently, the plan is to make it a two-day event, including additional workshops and two concerts featuring artists.

“Adding the educational component to the festival is very important to me,” said Carroll.

The event is free of charge and sponsored by The Denison University Music Department and SAC. For more information. call (740) 587-6220.
