Three vying for mayor in Smyrna

SMYRNA, Georgia — Three people are vying for mayor in Smyrna, as incumbent Mayor Derek Norton has drawn two challengers.

Retiree Alex Backry and Ken Hymes, a director of product management, have filed paperwork to run for mayor.

In Ward 1, no one is challenging incumbent Glenn Pickens.

In Ward 2, no one filed to run against incumbent Latonia P. Hines.

In Ward 3, incumbent Travis Lindley is running unopposed.

In Ward 4, lobbyist Michael Power filed to run against incumbent Charles “Corkey” Welch.

In Ward 5, Suz Kaprich, a real estate agent, is challenging incumbent Susan Wilkinson.

In Ward 6, no one filed to run against incumbent Tim Gould.

In Ward 7, Rickey N. Oglesby is running unopposed. He will replace Kathy Young, who was appointed to the post on June 5, to complete the term of Lewis Wheaton, elected in 2019.
