State Reps. Marvin Lim and state Sen. Sonya Halpern will host the second annual Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites High School Art Contest at the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with attendees recognized from the public galleries of the House and Senate chambers. Afternoon programming starts at 2:30 p.m. with remarks from the director of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, followed by presentations from the Department of Natural Resources Commissioner’s Office and the event’s legislative hosts. A group photo is scheduled for 2:50 p.m., with a meet-and-greet at 3 p.m.
Winning student artwork will be on public display from 1 to 5 p.m. on the South Wing steps inside the Capitol, 206 Washington St. SW, Atlanta. Organizers say the showcase highlights student talent while drawing attention to the cultural and natural resources preserved across Georgia’s parks and historic sites.
Lim, D-Norcross, and Halpern, D-Atlanta, launched the contest to connect high school artists with state leaders and agencies that steward public lands and history. The event returns after its inaugural year with an expanded schedule that combines legislative recognition, agency-led presentations, and time for students to meet state officials and peers.
