Duluth museum names winners of fifth-annual photo contest

DULUTH, Ga. — The Southeastern Railway Museum announced the winners of its fifth-annual photo contest.

Photographers submitted a total of 22 entries for this year’s contest. Portrait Photographer Mary Buck, owner of Lightscapes Portrait Studio in Duluth and president of the Duluth Fine Arts League, judged the entries.

This year’s winners, announced during a ceremony coinciding with Caboose Days, are:

Carel and Tarica were named Photographers-In-Residence and will be invited to exclusive and behind-the-scenes photo shoots at the museum. The museum will also feature their photos on-site and online.

“The museum offers endless opportunities for photographers, and our annual competition affords shutterbugs the chance to capture unique and interesting views of the museum,” said Kristen Fredriksen, the museum’s photography coordinator. “We appreciate the many submissions we received this year, and we look forward to working with our photographers in residence in the months to come.”

The Judge’s Choice, First Runner Up was Kendall Nelson, Connection. The Judge’s Choice, Second Runner Up was John Marbury, NS Passes the Museum.

Museum attendees cast more than 300 votes for the People’s Choice Winner.

The city of Duluth will display winning photographs in the People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice, Best in Category: Equipment and Best in Category: People categories at Duluth City Hall. Family Restaurant in Duluth will display a selection of other entries.

The Atlanta School of Photography and Natural Connections Photo Workshops donated prizes for this year’s contest.
