The Second Annual Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival returns this year during the first weekend of April.

The full weekend of activities is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on on Saturday, April 2, and  from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, in Blackburn Park. Admission is free.

“Festivals are a vital part of bringing the community together and attracting newcomers,” Festival Chair and Founder Rebecca Chase Williams said. “We had a successful inaugural Cherry Blossom Festival and we are excited to once again show residents and visitors what is so special about Brookhaven.”

Last year’s Cherry Blossom Festival attracted more than 10,000 attendees and added nearly $180,000 into the local economy. With more activities planned for this year, producers look forward to an even greater turnout and establishing the event as a cultural tourist attraction.

This year’s festival will include an arts & crafts market, food trucks, a children’s village, a 5K run and 1K walk (at 7 a.m. on April 2), musical performances and a Pet Parade and Costume Contest (that starts at 2 p.m. on April 3 at Pet World in the park; registration is required).

In December 2014 the City of Brookhaven planted 240 Yoshino and Kwanzan Cherry Trees in Blackburn Park. The Cherry Tree is the official tree of Brookhaven and is a symbol of peace and good will. These types of ornamental Cherry Trees were originally brought from Japan to America around 1900. The magnificent trees are known for their abundance of fragrant, delicate pink and white blossoms.

Sponsors for the 2016 Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival include the City of Brookhaven, XFINITY, Discover DeKalb, Perimeter Summit and PURE taqueria – Brookhaven. Big Peach Running Co. is a Festival Partner. Atlanta Parent, Dunwoody Crier and Brookhaven Post are Media Partners.

The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival is presented by the City of Brookhaven and produced by The NUN Group.
