Atlanta mayor: City learned lesson from 2011 snow storm

ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed on Friday said the city learned its lessons from a 2011 snow storm that paralyzed the city for days and used those lessons in response to the just more than two inches that fell on the city this week.

“I can put up a lot of evidence that Atlanta did learn its lessons. Four days did not go by before or three days or two days before the city was fully mobilized,” Reed said at an Atlanta Press Club appearance. “And, you can make the argument that we did things wrong, but no one can say that we were not at work, fully operational with a joint operations center standing up, without personal on board.

“No person who is honest or fair can take photographs … and not say the city Atlanta became functional faster,” Reed added. “And, sometime between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., people who live within the city of Atlanta limits could move on our major arteries.”
