Smyrna votes to extend sign moratorium

SMYRNA, Georgia — The Smyrna City Council has approved a 90-day extension of its moratorium on certain large freestanding signs, continuing a pause first enacted in July 2024.

The extension began on Aug. 8. The City Council voted 5-0 to extend the moratorium.

The initial pause followed a legal challenge to parts of the city’s sign ordinance, prompting a review by city officials. Since then, the council has passed several extensions.

As city officials have worked through certain elements of the sign ordinance, the current moratorium applies to signs that are taller than 25 feet and larger than 150 square feet.
