Georgia gas prices remain below the national average

As part of the promotion, the group lowered gas prices at a Chevron in Dunwoody temporarily to $2.389 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which the group said was the national average price per gallon in January 2021. Gas prices in Georgia remain below the national average and have dropped further thanks to a suspension of the state’s gas tax.

As of Sunday, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia was $2.74. That is 23 cents less than a week ago, 35 cents less than a month ago, and 44 cents less than last year.

That was below the national average of $3.17 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. Helping lower the price in Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp opted to suspend the state’s gas tax following Hurricane Helene.

“Even with rumblings of conflict and a storm brewing in the Gulf, prices at the pumps took a dip,” Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said in an announcement. “Meanwhile, OPEC+ announced intentions to bolster production come December 1st, hopefully, with this move and crude oil prices trending downward, Georgians will continue to feel financial ease at the pumps.”

Georgia’s state director of the National Federation of Independent Business praised the suspension, which runs through Oct. 9.
