LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia — Big Green Egg set the Guinness World Records title for the largest serving of chicken wings on Saturday.

This was a new record, and the minimum was set at 551 pounds. Big Green Egg ended up with 655.8 pounds.

“The best part about being here today is that Big Green Egg was started 50 years ago, and the first thing that they were known for was their chicken wings,” Michael Empric, an official adjudicator and spokesperson for Guinness World Records, told Sightseers’ Delight. “So to be part of a record attempt, celebrating the company and what they’re really known for with such passionate fans, it’s been really fun.”

For new record titles, Guinness sets a minimum that’s challenging and based on some other similar records, Empric said. Big Green set the record during its EGGtoberfest at Coolray Field, during which the company celebrated its 50th anniversary.

After setting the record, most of the wings were donated to a local charity.

“I am over the moon — I guess over the egg — on what happened here today,” Dan Gertsacov, CEO of Big Green Egg, told Sightseers’ Delight. “We had over 4,000 eggheads, literally from 25 countries around the world to gather with their family, friends and neighbors, and … on top of that, being able to set a world record on what started it all 50 years ago, and knowing today, we’re going to be helping feed people and feed people in need. What’s better than that?”
