TULSA, Oklahoma — Now that Season Two of Tulsa King is streaming on Paramount Plus, it seemed the perfect time to explore some of the locations featured in the hit series.
Of course, much of the series isn’t actually filmed in “T-Town.” However, many establishing shots were filmed in the “Oil Capital of the World.”
Aside from its role in Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, Tulsa is a great city, with several world-class attractions, including the Bob Dylan Center and The Church Studio, and a surprising food scene. As the new season is underway, it’s the perfect excuse to visit the “Buckle of the Bible Belt.”
Golden Driller
The Golden Driller is the perfect establishing shot for a television series set in Tulsa. The 75-foot-tall statue of an oil worker is said to be the sixth-tallest in the United States. It has stood in front of the Tulsa Expo Center since 1966.
Meadow Gold Sign
The Meadow Gold neon sign is an equally perfect backdrop for establishing Tulsa as a filming location. Meadow Gold Dairy installed the sign in the 1930s, and it was rescued from a building that was demolished and installed on a specially designed pavilion. It has since become an iconic landmark of Route 66.
Woody Guthrie Center
The Woody Guthrie Center, which opened in 2013, was used as an establishing shot in the first episode of Season Two. The center honors Woody Guthrie’s legacy by teaching visitors about his relevance and role in American history and music.
Center of the Universe
The Center of the Universe even lends its name to an episode in Season One. The unique concrete circle, a little over eight feet in diameter, is an acoustic anomaly. Any noise inside it echoes loudly, but only those inside the circle can hear the echo while those outside the perimeter of the brick structure hear nothing.
Mayo Hotel
The Mayo Hotel serves as the residence of Dwight David “The General” Manfredi, portrayed by Stallone. Brothers Cass A. Mayo and John D. Mayo opened the historic hotel in the downtown Deco district in 1925. Over the years, its guests have included Charlie Chaplin, Charles Lindbergh, John F. Kennedy and Elvis Presley. For visitors not staying in the hotel, consider visiting the Penthouse Bar for a drink and a stunning view, particularly at sunset.
South Boston Avenue
Stallone stood in the middle of South Boston Avenue for a promo photograph. Aside from its connection to Tulsa King, the view along South Boston Avenue toward Boston Avenue Methodist Church is a quintessentially unique Tulsa view.
