Mask up or pay out!
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will increase penalties on travelers who violate the federal mask mandate at airports and on public transportation, commercial aircraft, passenger railroads and intercity buses.
The federal mask mandate for transportation, which was implemented by TSA on Feb. 2, will remain in effect until at least Jan. 18, 2022.
“We appreciate the majority of travelers each day who voluntarily follow the requirement, but find this action necessary to maximize the protections for those who use and work within the transportation system, and to contain COVID-19,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement. “By doubling the range of penalties, we seek to reinforce the importance of voluntary adherence.”
The new penalties take effect Friday, Sept. 10. According to the TSA, penalties are $500-$1,000 for first offenders and $1,000-$3,000 for second offenders.
“Show some respect,” President Joe Biden said, dressing down Americans.
