The queen has closed her castle.

The Royal Collection Trust is temporarily closing Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Mews, The Queen’s Galleries in London and Edinburgh and all Royal Collection Trust shops amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. They made the decision in consultation with the government and Public Health England.

“The safety and wellbeing of our visitors and staff are our priority,” they said in a statement. The locations will close temporarily from Saturday, March 21, “as a precautionary measure.”

“As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we are unable to confirm a date on which the Palaces, Galleries and shops will reopen, but will monitor Government and Public Health England advice,” they added.
