Sightseers' Delight

Down along the coast

Just magnificent!

The Christchurch-to-Picton run of the Coastal Pacific is both a relaxing and scenic way to travel. Our train today was not crowded, an although it was a bit overcast for much of the way, the views did not disappoint.

The train runs along the Main North Line, which was built starting in the 1870s. It’s interesting to see how the lands change as the train runs along the coast near Kaikoura, then turns inland to run through the lush wine region of Marlborough.

Here is a picture I took along the coast from the open-air viewing car.
