The historic ruins of a textile mill located in what is today Sweetwater Creek State Park are undergoing a stabilization project, state officials said.
The project includes installing steel rods, new mortar and concrete caps on pillars.
The structure was once the New Manchester Manufacturing Co. The textile mill burned in 1864 during the Civil War.
The area around the former mill is today a popular hiking destination for park visitors. Many Georgians recognized the brick ruins in the blockbuster The Hunger Games: Mockingjay with Katniss inside the mill.
Once stabilization is complete, park visitors will be able to take guided tours into the mill complex. The area will also be made available for photography, portrait sessions and small weddings.
The three-month project is being conducted by Aegis Restauro, LLC, which specializes in architectural conservation and historic preservation. Sweetwater Creek State Park offers hiking trails, fishing, boating, an interpretive center, ranger programs, yurts, camping and picnic facilities.
