ATLANTA — The Buckhead Business Association on Thursday honored local businesses for their commitment to the community and for helping to reshape Buckhead.
During its Annual Luncheon at the JW Marriott on Lenox Road, the BBA honored Legoland Discovery Center as the Business of the Year. The family attraction opened in 2012 in Phipps Plaza.
Other finalists for this year’s Buckhead Business of the Year Award were Bhojanic, an Indian restaurant; Flywheel Sports, an indoor cycling studio; Morgan Kylee, a fashion boutique; and Onward Reserve, an apparel and accessories store.
The civic organization also honored a number of business for reshaping the community. Additional honorees were:
- Bullish on Buckhead: David Cummings, founder of the Atlanta Tech Village, which transformed an office building at the intersection of Piedmont and Lenox roads into a collaborative center for innovation
- Buckhead Beautification: Buckhead Atlanta, which revitalized a roughly eight-acre plot of land along Peachtree Street in the heart of Buckhead into an upscale shopping and dining destination
- Entrepreneur of the Year: Jenny Levison, owner of Souper Jenny, whose culinary business is expanding throughout the city
Spanx CEO Jan Singer delivered the keynote address, praising Buckhead and urging continued innovation. “Buckhead is not a barrier to greatness,” Singer told the audience, noting the Atlanta-based shapewear business is relocating its headquarters to Buckhead Atlanta.
“We have got to continue leadership as a country around solving problems and innovation in order to create the future,” Singer said. “And that method of making and crafting and building, whether it’s Souper Jenny … whether it’s Sara (Blakely, the founder of Spanx), it doesn’t matter. We’re making things, and making things is inventing, and inventing makes the life better. And, we need that.”
