Plane without nose gear lands in Lexington, airport closed to traffic

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A small prop plane with no front landing gear landed at Blue Grass Airport on Thursday afternoon, closing the small airport.

The Thursday afternoon mishap led authorities to shut down the airport to both inbound and outbound flights. Flights were delayed an hour or longer before the aircraft was cleared by about 5 p.m.

It was not immediately clear whether there were any injuries. Three fire trucks and three Luther emergency vehicles could be seen attending to the plane.

Authorities started moving the plane by about 4:50 p.m., prompting stranded travelers to watch the activity out the terminal windows. Moving the plane took only a matter of minutes.
