Statue pays tribute to Georgia tannery

BUFORD, Ga. — The Bona Allen Co. no longer tans leather.

The Buford tannery opened in 1873. Over the years, its clientele included Roy Rogers who had a custom made saddle made for his horse, Trigger.

While the Bona Allen Co. closed more than three decades ago, its former factory has been redeveloped as an artist colony. And, its mark on the city is remembered with a statue in downtown Buford depicting Roy Rogers, Trigger and a Bona Allen Co. employee.
