ATLANTA — While rising energy prices are hurting American families, using oil from the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve is not the correct course of action, a Congressman from Georgia says.
“The steady climb in energy prices is hurting American families and threatening our already struggling economic recovery,” U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., said in a news release.
Price contends that Democrats’ “only response to high gas prices is a short-sighted plan to drain oil from our nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve which would in fact weaken our strategic standing should there be a substantial disruption in the world’s oil supply.”
“These challenges require serious leadership,” Price said. The Republican strategy “will be a positive strategy focused on responsible energy development and innovation and rejecting those regulatory schemes that would impose a national energy tax or block access to America’s vast natural resources.”
