Rep. Williams nominated to head Ga. DNR

ATLANTA — Gov. Sonny Perdue and Gov.-elect Nathan Deal today nominated state Rep. Mark Williams, R-Jesup, to succeed Chris Clark as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

“Mark Williams is a true servant of the people and his unique background gives him the tools needed to lead our efforts to manage and preserve Georgia’s natural resources,” Perdue said in a statement. “Mark has dedicated much of his public service to this work and I am proud to recommend him as the next Commissioner of DNR.”

Under state law, the DNR Board appoints the Commissioner with the approval of the governor. The board is set to consider the nomination of Rep. Williams this week.

“I am extremely honored to be nominated,” Williams said in a statement. “With a background in biology and a love for the outdoors I look forward to serving the people of Georgia in managing our unmatched natural resources.”
