Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings will release Bob Dylan’s Bootleg Series Volume 18: Through the Open Window, 1956–1963 on Oct. 31, 2025, with preorders now available.
A preview track, “Rocks and Gravel,” an outtake from 1962’s The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, was released today.
The collection traces Dylan’s path from Minnesota to the Greenwich Village folk scene. It includes rare Columbia outtakes, informal apartment recordings, club performances and jam sessions, many never before released.
The 8-CD deluxe edition contains 139 tracks, including 48 unreleased performances and 38 rare cuts, accompanied by a hardcover book with liner notes by historian Sean Wilentz and more than 100 photos. Highlight editions will also be available on 2 CDs or 4 LPs featuring 42 tracks.
The set also includes a complete recording of Dylan’s legendary Oct. 26, 1963, Carnegie Hall concert, which marked both a career breakthrough and the end of his formative period. While individual songs from the concert have been released, this marks the first formal release of the show, which was once considered for release as a live album.
