Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed a measure to recognize the historical significance of the Wright Flyer III.
Senate Bill 24, sponsored by state Sens. Terry Johnson, R-McDermott, and Steve Huffman, R-Tipp City, the bill officially adopts the 1905 Wright Flyer III as the state airplane.
The Wright Flyer III was a pivotal development in aviation history, symbolizing Ohio’s contributions to the field.
The aircraft is part of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. The restored flyer is the only fixed-wing aircraft designated a National Historic Landmark.
