Kemp makes judicial appointments

ATLANTA — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp made a series of Friday afternoon judicial appointments.

The governor named Ralph W. Powell to the Superior Court of the Tifton Judicial Circuit in response to House Bill 906, which added a third judge to the circuit. Kemp also named Amy E. Smith to the Superior Court of the Houston Judicial Circuit in response to House Bill 992, which added a fourth judge to the circuit.

Kemp named Sarah Stimac Japour as the district attorney for the newly created West Georgia Judicial Circuit, which lawmakers created with Senate Bill 424.

The governor appointed Vasco “Terry” McRae to the Rockdale State Court. McRae fills a vacancy created when Judge Clarence Cuthpert resigned in March to run for Superior Court.

In September, the Judicial Nominating Commission submitted two recommendations to fill the vacancy — McRae and Angelique B. McClendon.
