McMaster ceremonially signs measure to create South Carolina-Ireland Trade Commission Act

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster on Wednesday ceremonially signed S. 621, the South Carolina-Ireland Trade Commission Act.

It creates a 15-member commission to advance bilateral trade and investment between South Carolina and Ireland. Its efforts include initiating joint action on policy issues, encouraging economic support, promoting business and academic exchanges and encouraging mutual investment in infrastructure.

The commission will consist of seven members appointed by the governor, four by the Speaker of the House and four by the Senate president.

Palmetto State officials said Irish companies employ more than 5,900 residents. Since 2010, Irish companies have announced the creation of more than 1,433 new jobs and $239 million in capital investment.
