Clarksville, Tennessee, Ward 4 City Councilman Wallace Redd has announced his resignation from the office, effective Oct. 31, 2024.
Redd cited personal reasons for the decision, adding he will be moving outside of the Ward 4 boundaries.
According to Main Street Clarksville, Redd was elected to the city council in 1996; he was elected to the Montgomery County Commission in 2014. He also ran for mayor.
“It has been my honor to have served four terms as a Councilman and one term as Montgomery County Commissioner,” Redd said in a written statement to Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts. “I have done my best to uphold my oath of office and represent the constituents of Ward 4. Helga and I will keep Clarksville and the City Council in our prayer.”
With the regularly-scheduled November 2024 city elections approaching, Redd’s immediate successor in the Ward 4 seat will be determined by voters in that election.
“Councilman Redd has always put his constituents and our citizens first while he’s served on the City Council,” Pitts said in a release. “He is our de facto parliamentarian, always helping me to keep the Council on track during our deliberations.
“His invaluable perspective, and humor, will be missed, and we pray for him and his family in the future,” Pitts added.
