News of Note

Frontier Airlines will start daily nonstop service from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Aug. 13. This is in addition to previously announced daily nonstop service from JFK to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas also launching on Aug. 13.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced more than $123 million for airfield, safety and other improvement projects at 235 airports in 35 states and the District of Columbia. This second round of the Airport Improvement Program grants fund projects such as new and improved airport facilities, repairs to runways and taxiways, airfield maintenance or equipment to operate and maintain airports.

American Airlines announced that Fiji Airways will join the AAdvantage travel rewards program in the coming year, offering members a host of benefits as well as earning and redemption capabilities when traveling on either airline.

With 75% of U.S. adults saying they will take a road trip this summer, personal finance website WalletHub said Texas is the best state for a summer road trip this year. The finding is part of its report on the Best & Worst States for Summer Road Trips in 2024. The Lone Star State bested Minnesota, New York, Louisiana and Florida.

A new survey shows that trust and confidence in New Zealand Police remain strong at 67%, and 83% of the public believe police act professionally. The results are from the 2022-23 public perceptions Police Module survey, conducted as part of the Ministry of Justice’s annual New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey.

Newton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Marcello Banes and Stephanie Lindsey, a real estate broker and attorney, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiring to launder money obtained from wire fraud and honest services wire fraud.
