Sightseers' Delight

A side trip to the Everglades is always a good idea

HOMESTEAD, Florida — The Everglades National Park, the “largest remaining subtropical wilderness” in the United States, seems a million miles away from the glitz and glamor of Miami. But it’s only 50 miles or so, depending on several variables.

The park is home to a diverse array of animals, ranging from the West Indian manatee to alligators to native birds, some rare. The photo opportunities are incredible.

The biggest downside is it really would take days to see the entirety of — or at least the bulk of — the park.
