Police in Picton, New Zealand, are providing traffic management support at the ferry terminals in the town due to heavy congestion.

“An influx of people who don’t have tickets for a crossing are turning up to both the Interislander and Bluebridge Ferry terminals,” police said in a statement. The influx “is causing congestion and delays.”

Authorities are asking anyone who does not have a booking for a ferry crossing this morning to steer clear of the terminal. People are apparently trying to travel ahead of a lockdown because of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

“For those that do have bookings we ask for your patience,” police said.
