When most people think of Curaçao, they no doubt have visions of taking in an island with an incredible culture, one-of-a-kind attractions and adventure sports.

But, interacting with flightless birds from Africa? Not likely.

Yet, since 1995, the Curaçao Ostrich Farm has transformed itself into one of the more intriguing and exciting attractions on the island.

The farm opened with 100 ostriches and with the goal of exporting ostrich eggs and meat to South America. The farm is said to be one of the largest ostrich farms outside of Africa, and a safari tour around the farm’s grounds offers an overview of its operations.

Visitors also have the opportunity to feed an ostrich and stand on an egg. They can also ride one of the flightless birds.

Of course, anyone looking to more than merely admire ostriches should check out Restaurant Zambezi. The on-site restaurant offers a range of dishes using ostrich meat.

It is, in fact, very lean and locally raised.
