The anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, brings with it a lot of emotions.
Sadness. Contemplation. Anger.
Some answers are hard to find, even more than 15 years later. As united as the country was on Sept. 12, 2001, we seem as equally dived today.
That horrible day affected everyone in the country. People from all walks of life sprung into action, giving blood, raising money and offering a helping hand however they could.
Much like we are seeing with Hurricane Harvey today, Americans come together in times of tragedy to help out their neighbors. In times like these, our differences seem so insignificant, and the rhetoric that seems to fill the airwaves goes silent, even if just for a moment.
Today, more than a decade-and-a-half later, memorials to that day are found in towns large and small.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City may be the centerpiece of memorializing and understanding that day, but communities across the country have erected their own memorials.
